Day 3: 6.23

Not a ton of photos for this day (and even less good ones!) - both hands were either on the paddle or helping a dog down or across the river!  The dogs were great on this stretch (and Mike and Jason were very patient).  I would never recommend taking dogs on this trip but it worked for us.  It has taken August 3+ days to recover from this experience.

The river was great - not very threatening but pretty splashy the entire way (not much flatwater to speak of which kept it entertaining).  There was some wood towards the end of the river and I can see how some years there could be even more wood (wood was definitely the most pressing obstacle).  At the end of the river, we had stashed a bike to get back to McCarthy.  Mike and Jason were able to get a ride all the back to Kennecott from a neighbor who happened to be on the road.  The only disappointment of the day was not getting to have  post trip beer all together.

Taking down camp

The snow line from the previous day

We camped about a mile downstream from the terminous of the glacier. It would be possible to put in much closer to the glacier (hopes of a fire ...)

Mills Creek strip. River left and down stream of the Mills Creek confluence.

A first 5 or 6 miles was braided river - fairly easy going for the pooches.

The lower 15 or so miles of river were fairly wooded.

Most accidents happen while getting into and out of your boat! The attack of the killer paddle.

Some deep mud at a portage (due to a strainer)
